Planes, Spoons, and Fish n Chips

Goodbye Evelyn! We will really miss you!
Our little Carry On
Genuine cracker crumbs on his mouth!
Please Sir. I want some more.
Finally able to relax.

Luke has left his home province for what we assume is the first time in his life. He also had his first plane ride, which he slept through. He appears to have missed the significance of it all.

Now we are in Guangzhou, home of the American Consulate. We are cloistered on a little island in the Pearl River compliments of English Imperialism, which caters to Westerners. Complete with a Starbucks, 7/11 and Papa John's Pizza. It appears to be populated by Westerners and their Chinese Children, like some strange colony out of a Ray Bradbury book. That said, it is also beautiful, it looks like the set of a Masterpiece Theatre series, circa 1930, melded with Tokyo, and Disneyworld. If that sounds awful, it's not.

Back to the star of our show. We were eating at Lucy's last night (western/eastern food) and ordered Luke some Congi (rice cereal with chicken broth and bits of chicken) to see if he would taste it. Initially, he subjected us to his running joke of smiling with jaw locked...and then he opend his mouth. He ate a few grains...then some more...then some more. He ended up eating about 20 spoonfuls. Unbelievable.

We started using the Baby Bjorn to carry him around, and he loved it! The breeze on his face, the ability to kick all he likes. At first we thought he was crying, but it turns out he was crowing. We were able to take a walk along the Pearl River at night with the lights coming up on the other side of the river. It was magical night, in so many ways.
