Independence!

Fourth of July!!!

Switzerland and USA! Good allies!
Anna meets Luke!
Balloons are fun!
~College roommates, still good friends~

We are pleased to announce that after 4 months, we finally have a child who eats. Luke is now eating full meals (yogurt, oatmeal and watermelon for breakfast!) on a regular basis. No more one day eat, three days fast, one day eat. We are so proud and it feels really good to not have to think about it so much. God bless our feeding therapist, Shahnoor.

Luke's trunk is getting so strong he can sit independently for minutes at a time. we no longer have to sit and worry if he's going to suddenly fall back and bang his head against the floor. This allows us to do things like wash the occasional dish or go to the bathroom alone while he plays by himself. Blessed independence!

He's doing very well cognitively. For example, he discovered I have chest hair (Anne would probably like it said at this point that Mike is writing this entry), which he pulled, then looked immediately for my arms so he could pull the hair on them next. Little discoveries around every corner.

On the downside...he won't stop drooling. Despite having plenty of teeth come in, he still drools constantly. We jokingly worry about dehydration. Keeping a supply of bibs is nearly impossible. In desperation, I tied a pair of his sweat pants around his neck and used his butt flap as a makeshift drool bib. It was surprisingly absorbent!

Finally, we have guests visiting from Switzerland. Just in time for Luke's first 4th of July as an American. Anne's college roommate Antonella, her husband Luca, and wonderful daughter Anna, have arrived, after not having seen them for almost 10 years. It's been great! Luke doesn't know he has had the power to bring our family and friends to us after far too long.

Luke's gotten so big! He's such a handsome boy.

Regarding the drooling - our son started teething and drooling at 4 months and this went on for a good 12+ months. My life saving device? Cart.er's brand bibs... They make some that are sturdier than regular cloth, SUPER absorbent and don't let the moisture pass through to the clothes.
Good luck!

How wonderful to see the growth in Luke. The change in him is amazing. I am so glad he is eating!!!

I had to giggle at the chest hair story. Anna Grace used to try and pull off all my freckles. That would take a really long time!
